| Bass Pro Tips was founded in New
York in 1990 by bass player Sergio Mottura. The idea
was to share with the world the success Sergio had achieved as a private instructor. Sergio thought that would be nice for other bass players to get in
touch with him, and explore his teaching method.
By 1993, Bass Pro Tips had become
very popular and almost went out of business. "We couldn't keep up with it. Orders would come in
faster than we could ship them out."
-Sergio
explains. "That's when I realized that I had to change the business around or
everything I worked so hard for could go down the drain."
Winter 1994 marked a crucial turning point for
Bass Pro Tips. In order to get the merchandise faster to our customers and offer a better service, a new
location was opened exclusively for shipping as a separate entity from the main office.
More staff was brought in, most of them bass players. Major deals were closed with other
music publishers and companies such as Warner Brothers, Music Sales, Alfred Music,
D'addario and DR.
No doubt about it, Bass Pro Tips had established itself as a major force on bass
instruction.
In 1996, more books were published by Sergio
Mottura and also a set of strings called Mottura Signature
Series was launched to the market.
Bass Pro Tips moves to an even bigger shipping
location by 1997.
On March 15, 1997,
bassprotips.com was pushed to production.
Sergio releases a new CD entitled "New Millennium
Nemesis" on December 20, 1997, which quickly becomes our best selling item ever.
On October 26, 1998 we inaugurated a brand new
website which will allowed people from all over the World to log on, browse and order
hundreds of items for bass players (some of them available exclusively at
bassprotips.com).
Bass Pro Tips has become an independent force
among bass players, with an excellent service and high customer satisfaction.
"I believe that the best is
yet to come. I didn't plan for Bass Pro Tips to become this popular and I don't follow a
particular business plan. I'm a bass player and I want to keep that part of me untouched.
After all, that's the reason why Bass Pro Tips succeeded." -Sergio Mottura
